Close Harmony and Millstone Grit at Scalford Church

Saturday 28th October 2017

A small but perfectly formed audience, many of whom were Global Harmonies, enjoyed the joint concert presented by Close Harmony and Millstone Grit at St Egelwin’s Church, Scalford. One gentleman had recognised our lovely Barbara on the poster and had decided to come along to see her!
Close Harmony sang first. They have added Paul Simon’s “Homeward Bound”, arranged by Aimee Leonard, to their repertoire of folk and popular songs from around the world, which were very well received. There were many positive comments during the interval when we all enjoyed delicious canapés and drinks.
Millstone Grit have developed into a well balanced ensemble of confident singers and talented instrumentalists. Their varied set, with most songs arranged especially for them by their Musical Director, Jan Williams, was a pleasure to listen to. They were equally at home rollicking through folk songs as they were giving spine tingling renditions of Russian hymns.
Given the popularity of our poster girl, it was appropriate that they rounded off the evening by asking everyone to join in the Beach Boys classic, Barbara Ann.
Many thanks to everyone at Scalford Church, who made us so welcome, and, as always, to our Musical Directors, Liz Underhill and Jan Williams.
