Over £1100 raised for Cancer Reserach at our Easter concert

Concert for Scarrington Friends of Cancer Research UK

Orston Church Saturday 5 April

Global Harmony made its first foray north of the A 52 at the invitation of Scarrington Friends of Cancer Research.
We assembled to rehearse at the very picturesque church in Orston, noting with delight the trays of cakes laid out for our half time refreshment.
An energetic rehearsal was followed by more refreshment at the nearby Durham Ox pub, who had laid on some man sized sandwiches and tea and coffee to sustain us through the evening. We really enjoyed the rare opportunity this gave us to relax and socialise.
A capacity audience awaited our performance and we did them proud. The choice of songs was wide ranging.New songs Hotaru Koi from Japan and Jamaican Plant de Letta fitted perfectly alongside old favourites such as Angels and Fa'afetai. Many of us found it a very enjoyable programme to sing, to which we were able to give our all.
We were very happy that Emma was able to sing in her first concert with us and our thoughts were with Maggie who was recovering from an "op".
Duncan had, as usual, gone the extra mile to collect the stage blocks from Wymeswold and in addition to showcasing those of us who are vertically challenged, they provided fantastic percussion in the African dance numbers.
Audience response was exceptionally enthusiastic; several of us had requests from audience members to sing Rolihlala Mandela again, we heard many very generous comments and were bowled over by the standing ovation at the end.
Some comments from choir members on Facebook;

Frances: We all found the concert, atmosphere, audience and singing to be so enjoyable and rewarding xx

Claire: Having a responsive audience makes it so much more enjoyable to sing and perform!

Thanks as always to Liz, who, in addition to conducting us so animatedly and effectively, had liaised with Jean at Scarrington. Thanks also to Duncan who organised the sarnies at the pub.

The concert raised £1,118.64, so we can be very proud of ourselves.

My thanks to you all for being such a wonderful group to sing with.
